WING August Featured Member ~ Little Wex Beauty & Design

Name: Sara Barney

Business Name: Little Wex Beauty & Design

Contact Info:  www.littlewex.com  /  sara@littlewex.com  /  512.529.9466

What You Do: Little Wex is a one-stop creative shop for your beauty and design needs that offers professional makeup artistry and affordable custom graphic design.

How Long You've Been in Business:  Started in Los Angeles in 2008, now in Austin for over 1 year, so 2+ years total!

Why You Love What You Do:  What a big question! Simply, I love making women (and the occasional man) look and feel beautiful.  It's really cool being part of someone's special day and being one of the people who helps them look their best.  I'm also a life-long product junkie... this way I get to write it off as a business expense!

Anything Else You'd Like to Tell the World:  Little Wex Beauty will be hosting its first ever Open House on Thursday, August 26 at 7pm.  We're doing a Back-to-School Night and talking about fall beauty trends. WING member Marisa Williams will also be on hand, showcasing Stella & Dot's fall jewelry line.

Why You Love WING:  If you ever needed an example of how to use the group to the fullest, you can turn to me - I was introduced to WING by my wedding coordinator and founding member, Bethany Childress Hanson.  There I met Casey Rowe (another founding member), who I introduced to my husband, who in turn she introduced to her husband who is an actor that will now be staring in my husband's play this fall.  At the first WING meeting, I met my realtor (and now good friend), Kim Fry, who sold us our first home! She brought Carly Gallagher to a meeting and now Carly and I are pilates buddies.  I also met Shannon Cunningham at WING and we now share a studio space with a handful of other lovely and talented ladies.  Oh, and of course, last meeting I met Marisa Williams, who will now be part of my open house.  Phew! Who's next?

WING July Featured Member ~ CLM Business Etiquette Consulting

Name: Christie Mueller

Business Name:  CLM Business Etiquette Consulting

Contact Info:  www.CLMetiquette.com  /  christie@CLMetiquette.com  / 502.648.4609

What you do:  CLM Etiquette trains individuals, executives and corporations on modern business etiquette. Our focus is on conveying to clients that "business IS personal" and providing the up-to-date etiquette skills to establish a personal business relationship.

How long you've been in business:  Est.  July 2009

Why you love what you do:  I love helping people change from being timid, scared and confused in business situations to radiating confidence and instantly becoming empowered and motivated by my training.
So many people have the academic background that is appealing on a resume but lack soft skills in the work force.  From dining etiquette, to shaking someone's hand, people rarely realize their daily actions are prohibitive to promotion and success.  It is extremely rewarding to be a part of my client's transitions as a person and professional.

Anything else you'd like to tell the world:  Come to the August WING meeting and learn the do's and don'ts of business etiquette with some of Austin's fabulous professional women!

Why you love WING:  WING has been one of my favorite things about moving to Austin! There is a profound comfort in being associated with women facing the same challenges as I am.  Each month I have the opportunity to share and learn with like minded, motivated women - the support and encouragement is unparalleled.  Immediate friends and instant free consulting; it doesn't get much better than WING!

MAY FEATURED MEMBER ~ Posey Floral and Event Design

Business Name: Posey Floral and Event Design

Names: Madeleine Myers and Bonni Taylor

What You Do: With over 12 years of combined experience in the floral industry, we are skilled in creating awe-inspiring floral arrangements for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, quinceaneras, galas, corporate events, debutante balls, fundraising events, dinner parties, or any type of party that might need an added pop or pizzazz! Our main focus is floral decor, but we also provide event design to our clients.  Different from an event coordinator, Posey offers to direct and manage every aspect of the decor and design of the event.  We create custom inspiration boards for our clients in order to communicate the precise vision to be achieved.  Beyond that, Posey will manage and coordinate every detail associated with the event's decor - overall themes, lighting and linens, place setting details and favors, and of course the flowers! It is truly our passion to create a one-of-a-kind event just for you!

How Long You've Been In Business: Posey Floral and Event Design was started in 2009, but combined, we've been in the floral business for over 12 years!

Why You Love What You Do: We have a true passion for styling our events based on your individual personality.  With Posey on your side, you can be assured we will create a unique style just for you.  We take pride in not only our creations, but also our relationships with clients.  With our strong art-based backgrounds there is no doubt your event will not only be elegant and beautiful, but true works of art!

Anything Else You'd Like to Tell the World: We're having a launch party to introduce Posey Floral and Event Design to Austin on Wednesday June 9th at Shoal Creek Gallery from 6pm-9pm.  The gallery is located at 2905 San Gabriel, Ste 101 (right next to Bodhi Yoga and just under Fino).

Why You Love WING: We love WING because it allows a fabulous group of women who have very unique talents and businesses to come together, share their experiences, and learn from one another, while still inspiring individual growth.

APRIL FEATURED MEMBER ~ Catherine Nicole Jewelry

Name: Catherine N. Cottingham

Business Name: Catherine Nicole

What You Do:  Jewelry Designer

How Long You've Been in Business:  6 years

Why You Love What You Do:
The best thing about designing jewelry is that you get to be as creative as a fine artist, but then additionally, when adorned by a customer, the art becomes both the piece itself and its movement with the wearer.  In fact one of the best parts of doing business here in Austin is that I get to see my work on my customers, which is a satisfaction I don’t get from my out-of-State patrons.

I also love that my job requires me to look for and find inspiration from everything.  I am especially inspired by ancient and indigenous ornamentation and the expressive role it plays, particularly in cultures where they wear more jewelry than clothing. I’m inspired by the semi-precious stones I work with which are an incredible example of the nuances in nature. And I’m inspired by the women who put on a piece of jewelry they love and instantly feel happier.

Anything Else You'd Like To Tell the World:
We are having our second ever sample sale this month (the first was a huuuge success). It will be on April 29th at my studio at 6pm (just in time for Mother’s Day and grad gifts), and items will be up to 70% off!!  It’s an invite only affair, but all my WING girls are invited, along with anyone you’d like to bring.

Why You Love WING:
I really do love WING, as you can tell by the fact that I have only ever missed one meeting.  I enjoy hearing about each business and learning with all the members.  It’s a wonderful thing and wonderful energy to be with other young entrepreneur women who have so many of the same questions, and challenges when it comes to running our businesses.  I also love how we can network with each other, without having our game-faces on or having to pitch ourselves. It’s just a comfortable and fun environment to meet, share and help each other out.
